DEPARTMENT OF FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

The Department was established under the name of Agricultural Technology formed in 1 February 1983. The name changes into Department of Food Science & Technology based on the Decree of Higher Education SK DIKTI No. 1789/D/T/2009 on 5 October 2009. The Department was established under Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University, Makassar, Indonesia.

GRADUATES PROFILES

Food Science & Technology graduates will have a wide range of careers opportunities in the food and beverage related industries; including new food product development, quality assurance, food regulations, research and development, and management of fresh food supply. Students will develop a sound understanding of the science behind food, its preparation and requirements to produce safe, nutritious and palatable food. The program covers specialized topics in food processing, food safety and quality assurance, new product development, postharvest, packaging, microbiological and chemical analysis of foods.

Other careers could also be looking at finance institution (banking) or other government institution related to agriculture.

OUR TEACHING STAFF

We currently have 17 teaching staff with various academic backgrounds, i.e. Doctoral degree = 9 people; Master’s Degree = 8 people (4 are still pursuing their doctoral degree).

The research publications (55 published manuscripts) from 2008-2012 can be seen both in international journals and domestic. The unpublished presentation during 44 international and 35 national seminars (79 presentations) as well as 6 patented products.

OUR FACILITIES

Our facilities including laboratories, seminars room, reading rooms, and library equipped with air conditioned overhead projectors, and fast internet. The library has major international and national journal collections, text books, seminar proceedings, and bound thesis. The intranet was developed using Wimax technology.

Our laboratories are equipped with teaching equipment and research supports:

  1. Food microbiology and biotechnology
  2. Chemical analysis and food quality
  3. Food processing
  4. Product development
